Valour & Valkyrie A/W 2107 shoot (Starlight collection)
Anyone that follows my work knows that I have had the pleasure of being the make-up artist for Brixton based fashion brand Valour & Valkyrie since it's conception nearly seven years ago. Designer and founder Jo Morton wanted to make this collection truer to her handwriting whilst also having appeal to the Scandinavian market (where she has received some interest) plus Scandi brands like Danish brand Samsoe and Samsoe are getting increasingly popular over here in the UK.
Dewy skin and nudes for eyes and lips were everywhere on the runways for A/W 2017 and this was the brief for this shoot. This has always been a favoured look of the brand but can be tricky to achieve that natural look whilst still strong enough to be editorial. Thankfully the model Sophia had amazing long curly hair which with a simple boxer braid into a fishtail down one side of her hair and clotted Pat McGrath style mascara helped to give her that strong fashion look.
I wanted to use products I haven't used before for this shoot. I normally opt for MAC face and body mixed with some strobe cream to achieve dewy skin on fashion shoots but I wanted a real warm glow to the skin to contrast with the cool greys of the clothing. Here is the list of products and links I used:
Base: I used Borjois Healthy Mix serum foundation in "Vanilla" - a popular for fashion work
Cheeks: ever so slight contouring with a peachy blush from Sephora own brand
and my 24 carat highlighter! - Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector, Liquid highlighter in "Moonstone" - worth every penny!
Eyes: Nyx Nude on Nude palette - warm gold/copper tones
Lips: Bobbi Brown sheer lipstick in Ballet pink
Hair: Bumble and Bumble sea salt spray
